This is Mala. She's a member of a species of creatures that are born attached to the ground. Some are born near others of their kind. Less fortunate ones, like Mala, are born seperated from others. Mala is afraid of the people that visit her from the shadows on every occasion, sometimes she swears she can see them too. She tries to tell herself that they are only apart of her imagination, yet the sounds of footsteps circling around her are often very convincing. Experiencing these illusions for years has led her to losing her mind. She can now see the mysterious people when they're not even there, and has nightmares about them. But she can't run away from them, being attached to the ground. So you can imagine the insanity.
I was trying to draw the most terrified expression I could. Being in Mala's position, I could imagine crying from absolute horror of the "people" that won't leave me alone.

Well, they also had to deal with some of Bowser's minions absolutely torturing them, and not being able to do something about it, they tend to be a little like Mala here.
Then Mario came along and saved everyone.
Maybe if someone nice would just come to Mala...

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

I love how the stump(?) is slightly twisted, as if to show her slightly twisted take on this.

I'm glad I was able to pull of the facial expression on her.
I mean, once the important flower characters grow into place, they're usually seperated from everyone else.
They don't seem to be too peeved by it, though. I guess the sunlight is good enough company for them. :/
